November 6 is election day, and Alabamians will head to the
polls to vote for candidates in several statewide races, as well as
in many legislative, judicial and local races.
There will be four statewide amendments on the ballot as well — two
of which are of special interest to many in the faith
community.
Amendment 1 deals with displays of the Ten Commandments and would
add language to the Alabama constitution to allow display of the
commandments alongside other historical documents.
Amendment 2 focuses on sanctity of human life and would add
language to the Alabama constitution recognizing the importance of
unborn life and the rights of unborn children, including the right
to life.
Amendment 2 would also make clear that the state constitution does
not include a right to abortion or require the funding of an
abortion using public funds.
Both topics have been the subject of much debate and news in
Alabama in recent years, so in this week’s TAB News we are going to
examine the issues more closely with Parker Snider of Alabama
Policy Institute.
